In-Network Insurance Accepted

Through a contract with Journey Inward Counseling, LLC in Boulder, CO, I am able to bill as in-network for these insurers:

      • Aetna
      • Aetna ASA/GEHA & ASAGEHA
      • Beacon Health Strategies
      • CIGNA
      • CIGNA Behavioral Health
      • Colorado Access
      • Colorado Commmunity Health Alliance
      • Colorado Medicaid
      • OptumHealth
      • Rocky Mountain Health Plan – Grand Junction
      • UMR
      • UnitedHealthCare
      • UnitedHealthCare / All Savers Alternate
      • Values Options – Commercial

If you have your health insurance through one of these options, then we will handle billing first with them and they later tell us what you personally need to pay out of pocket, such as covering co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance amounts. We call for pre-approval details to try to give you the best heads-up that we can on any costs you might expect. Unfortunately, insurance companies don’t always tell us these details until after we submit billing. Also please note: your therapist will work with you to identify if you have a qualifying psychological diagnosis, as insurance companies require a diagnosis to reimburse for services.

Out-of-Network “Super Bills” Reimbursement

If your insurance is not listed above, they may still reimburse you for services at your out-of-network rate (Medicaid and Medicare plans will not reimburse for out-of-network therapy). We can create something called a “Super Bill” for you that has the information the insurance companies require for reimbursement. You pay for services out of pocket as you go and send your Super Bill(s) to your insurer to work with them and receive your reimbursement directly from them.

Self-Pay & Sliding Scale

We can also work without involving insurance companies. A self-pay option means using your credit, debit, HSA, or FSA card (or good old fashioned cash) to pay for each session as you go. I try to keep this option affordable for most in the area while also covering my cost of living. A session typically costs $130.

I offer a sliding scale option based on household income for a limited number of sessions each month (limited because I need to make sure I earn enough each month to cover my own bills). Please reach out to see if you qualify for a lower rate and if I have available appointments for sliding scale services. Regardless of what you pay, you receive the same excellent care and respect from me.

Gifting Sessions and Fees

Gifting to Someone You Know

Yes, you can give someone therapy as a gift!

Please use PayPal to purchase a gift certificate code that you can give to someone you know. They pay for their sessions by giving their therapist the code to redeem.

Please note: the counselor will ask to make sure they have the means, whether through additional gifts or other sources, to complete at least five therapy sessions. The reason for this question is because the second, third, and fourth sessions are often the hardest to go through, and we do not want to leave anyone worse off for having started therapy without enough time to get to the healing portions. Each of us has defense mechanisms and adaptive skills that get us through our day. Starting to question and let go of those without building healthy replacement skills and patterns can leave people worse off than not going to therapy in the first place.

Another gift option is to anonymously donate to clients who are on a sliding scale. These clients are most often retirees with an annually limited count of sessions through Medicare or who are in the income gap between qualifying for Medicaid and being able to afford plans through the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

When you donate any amount of money to the Sliding Scale Fund, it is used to open more appointment times for people who qualify for sliding scale fees or is used to cover the cost of brief intervention therapy for people who otherwise would not be able to participate in therapy at all.
